Fucoidan has various kinds of physiological activities, such as apoptosis-inducing action that induces natural death of cancer, angiogenesis-inhibiting action that inhibits growth of cancer cell, immunostimulating action that enhances immune strength of a human body and mitigation action on anticancer drug treatment side effects.
Fucoidan includes the one derived from Mekabu, the one derived from Mozuku and the one derived from Kombu. While these have various actions as mentioned above, they have different functions as they have differences in structure, constituent sugar, and other contained materials.
Accordingly, it is fucoidan mix that was developed, in the expectation that it might exhibit higher effects than by fucoidan alone by mixing fucoidan materials with different derivations and functions. Fucoidan mix is the mixture in which fucoidan derived from Cladosiphon Okamuranus, the one derived from Mekabu and Agaricus mycelium extract powder are mixed in a predetermined blending ratio. From researches so far, it was found that the fucoidan derived from Cladosiphon Okamuranus has strong apoptosis-inducing action, while the one from Mekabu has strong immunostimulating action. Additionally, Agaricus is known to have immunostimulating action as well as fucoidan. It has been proved that fucoidan mix exhibits stronger power than fucoidan alone does, by mixing three kinds of fucoidan materials that have different functions respectively.
In the following figure, NK cell activity was examined by transplanting tumor cells into five group of mice, which respectively took in the fucoidan derived from Mozuku, the fucoidan derived from Mekabu, Agaricus mycelium extract powder, and fucoidan mix respectively. While increase in NK cell activity could be observed in all the groups when compared to the control group, the group that took in fucoidan mix showed the highest NK cell activity. Thus we confirmed that higher effects can be obtained by fucoidan mix than fucoidan alone.

By studying various kinds of fucoidan and its mixture other than fucoidan mix, we will continue our study, as we believe that such study might contribute to exhibition of further stronger effects resulting from combination.
Today, active research is conducted on fucoidan and various bioactive functions of fucoidan, such as “anti-cancer action,” “cholesterol-lowering action,” “blood-pressure lowering action” and “anti-virus action,” have been revealed.
