Clinical reports on cancer

Left breast cancer, lung metastasis and carcinomatous pleuritis

Female in the 60s

Chief Complaint: No significant symptoms
Past Medical History: Modified radical mastectomy stage Ⅳ (in 2001)

Current Medical History:
She had a modified radical mastectomy in May 2001 to treat her breast cancer in the left breast. After the surgery, she was administered 6 cycles of Cyclophosphamide Methotrexate Fluorouracil (CMF) but they didn’t work well. In April 2002, lung metastases was discovered. A fluid accumulated, which led to pleural effusion, and she developed carcinomatous pleuritis. The result of cytology showed class V (Cytology conclusive for malignancy). For the reason, anti-cancer drug was changed to Docetaxel and she began treatment from June. Even after the initiation of treatment, she suffered from prolonged appetite loss. After providing the patient and the family members with information on fucoidan, we introduced Fucoidan Mix AG treatment to the patient.

Treatment Outcomes:
Due to the prolonged appetite loss even after the chemotherapy began, we introduced Fucoidan Mix AG to the patient after received consent from the patient and her family.
After the 2nd cycle, she gained appetite, and the pleural effusion also decreased. The result of cytology indicated Class I
(Absence of atypical or abnormal cells).

Left breast cancer, which had metastasized to the right breast, bilateral neck, subclavian, axillary lymph node, and bilateral upper extremity lymphedema

Female in the 40s
Chief Complaint: A lump on the left breast
Past Medical History: Not significant

Current Medical History:
She noticed a lump in the left breast and went to see a mammary gland surgery, but she did not go back to the hospital to get the test result. She visited our clinic in April 2004 seeking information on fucoidan. She was diagnosed with left breast cancer, metastatic to the right breast, both sides’ neck, subclavian, axillary lymph node as well as both sides’ upper extremity lymphedema. She desired Fucoidan Mix AG only therapy. However, we determined that Fucoidan Mix AG therapy in conjunction with nighttime chemotherapy may have better results. For the reason, she was administered Docetaxel in addition to Fucoidan Mix AG. Further, after each night chemotherapy session, hyperbaric oxygen therapy was provided to enhance the effectiveness.

Treatment Outcomes:
She underwent the above mentioned combination therapies for 6 cycles. There were no changes in the level of tumor markers, without multi-organ metastasis. Reduction in size of the primary tumor and lymph node metastasis as well as disappearance of the left and right lymphedemar were observed. Her condition was classified as PR (Partial Response).

After a right breast cancer surgery, the tumor had metastasized to the cervical lymph node, both sides’ axillary lymph node, chest wall and bones, as well as bilateral pleural effusions

Female in the 50s
Chief Complaint: Swelling of the face and the right upper limb, cancer pain
Past Medical History: Right breast cancer, breast-conserving surgery

Current Medical History:
She had a breast-conserving surgery to treat her right breast cancer in August 2002 and after the surgery, she underwent radiation therapy. In March 2003, she was discovered that her cancer had spread to the right supraclavicular lymph node, and received chemotherapy (CEF). However, due to a significant reduction in the neutrophil count, she had to discontinue the chemo drug after one cycle. When metastasis tumors were found in both sides of the neck and both sides of the axillary, she switched to radiation therapy. As no improvement was seen, she visited our clinic in August the same year. Our close examination indicated that she had metastasis tumors in both sides of the cervical lymph nodes, both sides of the axillary lymph nodes, the chest wall as well as bones along with bilateral pleural effusions, and she immediately began treatment using Docetaxel and Fucoidan Mix AG.

Treatment Outcomes:
Around 3 days after she began the treatment, swellings of the face and right upper limb remove subsiding. At the same time when the 2nd chemotherapy began in September, the left neck lymph node and bilateral axillary lymph nodes and carcinomatous effusion almost disappeared. After that, the size of the right cervical lymph node was also reduced.

After the breast cancer surgery, Brain metastasis

Female in the 30s
Chief Complaint: Side effects from chemotherapy and radiation therapy
Past Medical History: Breast cancer

Current Medical History:
In March 2010, she had a CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System to remove a 3 x 3.3cm tumor in the frontal cortex (which was spread from the breast). When the brain tumor recurred in September 2010, she began chemotherapy and radiation therapy along with fucoidan therapy.

Treatment Outcomes:
After starting fucoidan therapy, the brain tumor was observed shrunk to a quarter in size in November 2010. Again in April following year, the size was further reduced. Her condition was classified as PR. In addition, the side effects from chemotherapy and radiation therapy were mitigated.

Fucoidan Mix AG・・・It is composed of mozuku extracted fucoidan, mekabu extracted fucoidan and agaricus mycelium.

Today, active research is conducted on fucoidan and various bioactive functions of fucoidan, such as “anti-cancer action,” “cholesterol-lowering action,” “blood-pressure lowering action” and “anti-virus action,” have been revealed.
